Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Amer Fort – Flock

For this week’s Black and White photo challenge, Cee’s challenged us to share photos that end with the sound “-ock”.

amer

When Daegan and I went to India, the two of us spent a week in Jaipur, one of my favourite places in the world. As it was his first trip there, I took him to the Amer Fort. As we approached the entrance, a massive flock of birds lifted off above our heads.

In yesterday’s entry I talked about how relatively young many of the “old” landmarks in North America are young by Indian standards. So the Amer Fort, built in 1592, is among some of the “younger” ones there. Still, it is a stunning place to visit. Every time I go I  imagine it just as full of people as it is now. Except instead of tourists, it’s filled with people living and working there. Then I imagine what it must have taken to build. Getting up there is a bit of a hike alone so getting building materials must have been a gruelling job even with the help of animals. Then once the materials are on top of the hill, you’re not done yet. The building itself is built on four levels so someone had to haul things up and down ladders. And then, look at all of the intricate stonework there. Someone did all of that design without AutoCAD or even a calculator. It boggles the mind.
